# Cowpin

> A bookmark manager for people who keep bookmarks for years: one-click import
> from Pinboard, Pocket and Instapaper that preserves tags, notes and private
> flags; full-text search over the saved page text, not just the title; and a
> Pinboard-compatible HTTP API. Free during beta.

Cowpin is a hosted web app at https://www.cowpin.com. It is not self-hosted and
not open source. It is run by one person and is in public beta, which means
every feature is currently free and the product is still changing.

What makes it different from a browser's bookmark folder:

- **Import keeps everything.** Tags, notes, timestamps and private/public flags
  survive the move from Pinboard (token or export file), Instapaper (CSV),
  Twitter/X bookmarks, and any Netscape-format HTML export — which is what
  Pocket, Raindrop, Delicious and every browser produce. Not just URLs and
  titles.
- **The page text is archived on save.** Every save captures the readable text
  of the page, so search works over the contents and a link that dies later
  still has its content.
- **Search is full-text**, across titles, tags, notes and archived page text.
- **There is a real API.** `/api/v1/*` is Pinboard-compatible, so existing
  Pinboard scripts and tools work against Cowpin with a token swap.
- **Rediscover** resurfaces things you saved and forgot, which is most of any
  bookmark library.
- Saving works from a bookmarklet, a Chrome extension, the PWA share sheet on
  iOS/Android, or a per-user save-by-email address.

  planned but not being charged for.
- The free tier's stated limit is **50,000 bookmarks**.
