Import Your Reddit Saved Posts Into Cowpin
Cowpin
10/11/2026

Reddit’s Saved list is convenient until it is not: search is weak, there is no real export in the app, and anything platform-specific disappears when your account or the product changes. If you want those links in a normal bookmark library — tagged, searchable, archivable, exportable — Cowpin ships a Reddit saved-posts importer in Settings.
This is a step-by-step for what actually works today, including honest limits.
What Cowpin imports
From Reddit saved posts export (CSV or JSON):
- URL — the post on Reddit, or the external link when the save points off-site
- Title — from the export when present; otherwise derived from the permalink
- Tags — always
reddit, plusreddit-{subreddit}when the subreddit is known - Created time — when the JSON export includes
created_utc - Short description — self-text snippet from JSON when available
Cowpin does not import Reddit comments you saved separately from posts unless they appear in the same export shape as saved listings. It does not sync live with Reddit after import — run import again if you save new posts on Reddit.
Option A — saved_posts.csv (Reddit data request)
- In Reddit: Settings → Privacy (or your account privacy / data tools) and request a copy of your data.
- When the archive arrives, find
saved_posts.csv(filename may sit inside a zip). - In Cowpin: Settings → Import → Import Reddit saved posts.
- Paste the full CSV (header row must include
idandpermalinkorurl). - Click Import saved posts.
The file picker on the generic import upload also recognizes this format if you prefer uploading the file instead of paste.
Option B — JSON from a saved-posts script
Many people use a saved-posts JSON dump (Reddit API listing shape: kind, data,
permalink, subreddit). If the text looks like Reddit listing JSON, paste it in the
same Reddit saved posts box — Cowpin detects JSON with permalink and subreddit
fields.
If your script outputs a bare array of posts, that works too as long as each item carries permalink or URL metadata the parser expects.
After import
- Open Bookmarks and filter tag
redditto see the cohort. - Use
reddit-askhistorians-style tags to slice by subreddit. - Run Find duplicates under Settings → Bookmarks if you also imported the same URLs from Pocket or Instapaper — see import cohort playbook.
- Save new Reddit links with the browser extension instead of relying on Reddit’s Saved button long term.
External links in saves become first-class bookmarks Cowpin can archive and highlight like any other URL — not just Reddit thread pages.
Compared to “Reddit-only” bookmark extensions
Tools like BookmarkBrain optimize semantic search over X/Reddit saves inside the browser. Cowpin’s angle is different: leave the platform with a portable library, Pinboard-class API, and MCP for agents. See BookmarkBrain vs Cowpin for a head-to-head.
Import your saves once
Paste saved_posts.csv or JSON under Settings → Import, confirm the count,
then search your library like it belongs to you — not to a social feed.
