MyMemo vs Cowpin: Chat Over Saves vs Exportable Archive
Cowpin
10/11/2026

MyMemo sits in the same neighborhood as mymind: save links and notes, lean on AI for organization — then add chat over your library and extras like Memocast (turning saves into podcast-style audio).
Cowpin skips the podcast layer and optimizes for a durable URL archive you can search literally, highlight, export, and query from MCP/API — including asking your library over archived page text, not only chat UI inside one app.
This post is for choosing between “talk to my saves here” and “own the files and endpoints.”
What MyMemo adds on top of “AI bookmarking”
Conversational retrieval. Ask questions in natural language; the product retrieves from what you saved. Quality depends on how well items were indexed and summarized — same class of trade-off as any RAG-over-personal-data tool.
Memocast and similar extras. Audio summaries can help on commutes; they are also a new format to leave behind if you switch products. Cowpin does not generate podcasts from bookmarks.
mymind-like hoarding. Low-friction save, AI-assisted tags/summaries — see the mymind vs Cowpin post for auto-tags vs tag discipline; most of that comparison applies here too.
What Cowpin optimizes for instead
Archived page text. Saves trigger a fetch and strip; search and highlights use what the page said, not only a one-line AI summary from save time.
Stable tags you control. Extension AI tag suggestions you accept — not silent relabeling. Duplicate URL merge when imports double up.
Leave anytime. Pinboard JSON/HTML, bulk highlight Markdown, REST + MCP — documented in automate with the API. Chat history inside MyMemo does not export as cleanly as “here are 4,000 URLs + tags.”
Agents outside the browser. Cursor/Claude search your vault via MCP without re-uploading a export zip each session — see cursor agents need a vault.
Side-by-side (honest)
| Question | MyMemo (typical) | Cowpin |
|---|---|---|
| Primary UX | Save + chat (+ audio extras) | Save + tags/search/reader |
| Best “question” UI | In-app chat | Ask panel + full-text search |
| Podcast from saves | Memocast-style features | Not offered |
| Export / API | Check MyMemo’s current export | Pinboard-class API + standard files |
| Coding agents | Not the core story | MCP search/save |
| mymind overlap | High on save UX | Addressed in mymind comparison post |
Cowpin has no MyMemo importer. Migration is the usual honest path: export links if MyMemo provides them, import via Settings (HTML/JSON/CSV depending on format), re-archive on Cowpin’s side. Chat transcripts and Memocast audio do not transfer.
When MyMemo is the better pick
You want one app where you save, then chat daily, and optional audio replay
is worth the subscription. You rarely need Pinboard POST /v1/posts/add or Obsidian
file drops.
You liked mymind but wanted more Q&A on top of the hoard — MyMemo’s pitch matches that.
When Cowpin is the better pick
Chat answers were wrong or shallow and you needed the original paragraph.
You care about highlights → Obsidian — export highlights.
You want shutdown insurance: exportable library + importers for Pocket, Instapaper, Karakeep, Reddit.
You already use Cursor and want saves searchable without copy-paste into chat.
Both
MyMemo (or mymind) for fast capture and casual chat during research weeks; Cowpin as the canonical URL + highlight archive you export and point agents at when the project ends.
Try Cowpin on a slice of your library
Import one export file or save twenty links from the extension. Compare search on a quote you half-remember — that is the habit Cowpin is built for.
