IntegrationsSelection and notes from the extension
Clip highlighted text into a bookmark’s notes field.
On this page
Cowpin stores long-form text in each bookmark’s Notes field (searchable in the app). You can add notes from the browser extension or any Pinboard-compatible client.
Extension: save a selection
- Connect the Chrome / Edge / Firefox extension.
- On any page, select text → right-click → Cowpin: Save selection to note.
- Cowpin saves or updates the bookmark for that page URL and appends the quote to Notes (with a
---separator if notes already exist).
If the page is not saved yet, Cowpin creates a bookmark with the selection as the first note.
API: quick-add
POST /api/bookmark/quick-add with your API token (Authorization: Bearer cowpin_…):
{
"url": "https://example.com/article",
"notes": "Quote or thought to remember",
"appendNote": true
}
notes— stored on the bookmark (up to 20k characters).appendNote: true— merge into existing notes instead of replacing (default on re-save is to leave notes unchanged unless you sendnotes).
Pinboard-compatible API
Pinboard clients use the extended parameter on posts/add as the long description. Cowpin maps extended → Notes (and description → title), matching Pinboard import/export:
GET /v1/posts/add?auth_token=user:TOKEN&url=…&description=Page%20title&extended=My%20note
Exported posts return extended from Notes (falling back to legacy description when Notes is empty).
